Geode Easter Eggs – start'em now!

by mari

I still feel so new at this momma thing. I’m beginning to realize there are all these holidays I have to participate in – Halloween, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and now Easter. These are the holidays I began to avoid in my twenties. The only thing getting me through the coming years is remembering the amazing easter egg hunts my mom did every year until I graduated from college – seriously, college. Through the entire half-acre yard. I think my most vivid memory is my new multi-colored bra hanging from the branches of the maple tree for me to “find”. Hard to miss?!

And, of course, there were Easter eggs to decorate. We always rocked the professional crayons and masking tape with layered dyes technique. But you’ve got so many choices these days! Like Mahar Drygoods silk tie-dyed eggs (with vintage ties, natch!) And even better: this incredibly cool tutorial for Crystal Geode Easter Eggs. With a good dose of time (START NOW!) and some minerals (rock salt, epson salt, etc.) food coloring, and eggs – you get the best project a rockhound-slash-creative-type could ever see. I’m tempted to make these just for me, I don’t think the 15 month-old would mind either way.

And with that thought, I’ve gotta ask all of you veteran moms:

What do you do with your 1 year old for Easter?
